Description

The Smart Museum of Art is a site for rigorous inquiry and exchange that encourages the examination of complex issues through art objects and artistic practice. Since its inception, the Smart has been a trailblazer for academic museums and a hub that connects many parts of the University with our public audiences, creating an interdisciplinary environment in which people come together and learn from one another through their exchange with art. As we observe our 50th anniversary, this mission is a priority now more than ever.

Donations are applied to...

Your support—at any level—has an immediate and significant impact. You allow us to care for the 16,000+ objects in the museum's collection, to engage a diverse array of artists and other experts as speakers and workshop leaders, and to serve South Side families through our successful monthly Family Days. These are only a few of the ways your contributions make Smart what it is: a hub of community and intellectual activity in Hyde Park and beyond.

Why are donations necessary?

The Smart continues to be a leader among academic museums, having been free and open to all since its founding in 1974. Your support today enables us to continue pushing the boundaries of what an academic museum can be—how we can better serve students from across disciplines and how we can serve our local community.
